About the deck
Skydeck Chicago occupies the 103rd floor of Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) at 412 metres. The deck offers 360-degree views across Chicago and on clear days to four states: Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The signature feature is The Ledge - four glass-floor boxes that extend 1.3 metres beyond the building facade, 412 metres above the street.
The boxes hold up to five people at a time and offer a direct vertical view down the face of the building..
The honest take
Willis Tower has a 6.7% Vanity Ratio - one of the most honest tall buildings in the world. What you see at 412m is essentially what the building's architects designed to be occupied. The Ledge boxes were added in 2009, decades after completion. The original building needed no gimmick. It is simply tall and full of offices from bottom to almost-top.
